DOJ Reports A “Death List” From January 6th

(ThePatriotWire)- The public hearings held by the House’s January 6 investigating committee have revealed plenty of details that political pundits have classified as “bombshell.”

Recently, the Department of Justice revealed some more as part of their own, separate investigation, including that people who were attending the Stop the Steal rally and the attack at the U.S. Capitol building that followed had a “death list” with them, as well as explosives they were planning to use.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has led a DOJ inquiry into whether former President Donald Trump broke any laws in regard to his actions before, during and after the insurrection. As part of that probe, the DOJ is also investigating members of some of the extremist groups that were part of the attacks that day.

On Friday, CNN reported that the DOJ made a new court filing that alleged that people at the attacks had documents with the words “DEATH LIST” on it. That document was found during a search of the home of Thomas Caldwell, who is a member of the Oath Keepers. That search was conducted not long after the attacks on January 6, 2021.

The list was handwritten and also included a 2020 election official in Georgia and members of their family. Both of them, according to the DOJ court filing, were targets of “unfounded conspiracy theories that they were involved in voter fraud.”

Caldwell gave a comment on the matter to CNN, saying:

“The DOJ’s claim that I sought to assassinate election workers is a 100% false and disgusting lie.”

According to the CNN report, the DOJ also says at least three of the Oath Keepers’ chapters around the country held what they are calling “training camps” prior to the attending the rally on January 6, 2021. Those camps were apparently focused on teaching members various tactics that the military uses in combat.

Members from a chapter based in Florida held a session that was focused on “unconventional warfare.” A North Carolina Oath Keepers chapter held a session that was focused on establishing “hasty ambushes,” according to prosecutors.

One of the leaders of an Ohio chapter of the Oath Keepers, Jessica Watkins, said that “recruits” had to attend “military-style basic” training so they would be “fighting fit” by the time that Inauguration Day for President Joe Biden came around.

In a release that accompanied the filing, Garland said that the DOJ has already filed criminal charges against more than 800 people for their roles in the events of January 6, 2021. He added that the department still has plenty of more of the investigation left, and that more charges are likely.

Back in June, Garland said:

“We are proceeding with full urgency with respect, as I’ve said many times before, to hold all perpetrators who are criminally responsible for January 6 accountable, regardless of their level or their position and regardless of whether they were present at the events of January 6. We’re just going to follow the facts wherever they lead.”
