(ThePatriotWire)- Monday’s premiere of Chris Cuomo’s new NewsNation primetime program, “Cuomo,” received poor ratings and lost to reruns and animated cartoons in a key audience group for advertisers.
After being fired by CNN in December, Cuomo returned to primetime television on Monday and attracted 147,000 viewers, according to data provided by Nielsen Media Research and cited by the New York Post. Cuomo only attracted 8,000 total views in the 25-54 age group.
According to the site, his ratings in the 25-54 demographic were lower than those of many cartoons and repeat programs, including “Spongebob,” “Seinfeld,” “The Office,” and “Bob’s Burgers,” as well as the 7 p.m. program that ran an hour before his show.
The 8 p.m. The Fox News program hosted by Tucker Carlson earned 20 times as many views as Cuomo’s broadcast on Monday.
Chris Hayes of MSNBC attracted slightly more than 1.4 million views for “All In,”
Cuomo was surpassed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who attracted 814,000 viewers, and Eric Bolling from Newsmax, who attracted 151,000 viewers for “The Balance” on Monday.
After being dismissed by CNN in 2021 for his role in defending his brother, former Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, after 11 women accused him of sexual assault, the NewsNation host made a comeback to primetime television.
After the New York Attorney General’s office revealed transcripts revealing Chris attempted to use media contacts to learn more about his brother’s accusers and assisted in preparing for Andrew’s public response, Chris’ old employer suspended him “indefinitely” in November 2021.
Then, in February 2022, The New York Times revealed that CNN officials had become aware of claims that Chris Cuomo had sexually assaulted a teenage temp while working at ABC News in 2011.
“Jane Doe,” the accuser, claimed that Cuomo propositioned her after inviting her to a meeting so he could give her career advice.
Cuomo’s hiring by NewsNation was announced in July, along with the network’s plans for him to headline a primetime program in the upcoming autumn season. The news came after rumors that the former CNN anchor was about to be hired by NewsNation President Michael Corn, a former colleague of Cuomo’s at ABC News.
