(ThePatriotWire)- Last week, CNN anchor Jake Tapper blasted Congressional leadership for protecting Big Tech monopolies, calling it “anti-American.”
During Tuesday’s broadcast of “The Lead,” Tapper pointed out that congressional leaders failed to include two bipartisan Big Tech anti-trust measures in the massive $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package.
According to Tapper, the measure from Senators Chuck Grassley and Amy Klobuchar would “stop companies like Apple, Amazon, Meta, and Google” from “giving preference to their own products and burying other products.”
Additionally, Senator Marsha Blackburn’s bill would “loosen the stranglehold” on apps that permit Big Tech to “crush” the competition.
Tapper said neither measure was even given a vote in either the Senate or the House, and Blackburn’s measure didn’t even get marked up in the House committee.
Tapper suggested that the reason these bills weren’t included is that Congressional leaders often prevent votes on bills if they fear the bills might pass.
He accused both Democrat and Republican leadership of being “eager to run out the clock.”
Tapper pointed out that several former congressional staffers and family members of lawmakers “have coincidentally found lucrative jobs in the tech sector.” He said Big Tech is also one of the “biggest sources” of campaign donations to the Democrat Party.
Meanwhile, Tapper added, while many Republicans engage in “anti-Big Tech rhetoric,” very few of them “seem at all interested in standing up to monopolies.”
Ultimately, however, Tapper believes the fault lies with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, “plus a bunch of California House Democrats that represent Big Tech.”
Tapper said Big Tech’s monopolies and anti-competition along with the “anti-American way” Congress deals with the industry “is arguably a more important and significant story.”
