When President Donald Trump issued an emergency declaration that allowed him to shift funds toward building a wall along the US-Mexico border, liberal politicians and media sources went absolutely ballistic. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and then-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) complained bitterly in joint statements they had made at the time. How they’re reacting to today’s issues is telling of their hypocrisy.
Everything Old Is New Again
Former President Barack Obama rang in the new year of 2014 saying that his administration would be a “Year of Action” because he said, “I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone.” This was his way of announcing to the world that he intended to bypass Congress and the Constitution through the use of executive orders/memoranda.
Obama used his sword pen quite effectively doing a two-step around Congress to enact parts of his “progressive agenda” in areas such as gun control and immigration, among others. Ms. Pelosi fully backed his end-runs when she failed as the head of the House of Representatives to get things done the correct way.
The Evil SCOTUS
When the SCOTUS issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned the 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, it said that it is up to Congress or individual states to legislate abortion issues. Based on the number of lawmakers who have been protesting outside the courthouse and acting like activists, it would be fair for one to assume that they see the court (at least the conservative members) as more beastly than… well, the beast of the Apocalypse.
The court’s message to the legislature can be summed up in three words, “DO YOUR JOB,” and pass a law. The Democrats seem to prefer punting that obligation over to the Oval Office and have been encouraging the administration to declare abortion “a public health emergency.”
Climate Change
This is another topic that the Lefties use on the campaign trail to stir up their constituency, using it as a rallying cry to get them to the voting booths. A number of Democrat senators have been urging the president to declare climate change a national emergency, and there are signals that he may be on the verge of doing so.
An article in the left-leaning Associated Press (AP) seemed to be offering a liberal wish list of what he could accomplish, including the ability to “speed the nation’s transition away from fossil fuels…” as well as blocking the ability to drill for them. The major problem with that, as some experts see it, is that the technology for so-called “clean” energy sources like solar and wind as a replacement for oil and gas has not advanced far enough, at least not yet.
Liberals did not hesitate to turn to the federal courts to try and block former President Donald Trump’s orders at every turn, seeming to take great pains to end up before a judicial activist — frequently somewhere in the Ninth Circuit. So, what do you think? Will the Democrats backtrack, recognizing their hypocrisy? Can the Republicans find judges sympathetic to their position to return the favor?
