(ThePatriotWire)- On Saturday night, the Nevada Senate race was finally called for incumbent Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto, who squeaked to victory over Republican challenge Adam Laxalt.
With Masto’s reelection, the Democrats retained the Senate Majority by holding on to 50 seats. All that remains is the December 6 runoff election between incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker.
If Warnock wins, the Democrats would have 51 seats. A Walker victory would keep the Senate at the 50/50 split it currently has.
CNN reported Masto’s victory as “very good news for the Biden administration.” Political analyst Gloria Borger made it all about Donald Trump, noting that Trump isn’t a kingmaker since his candidates “did not do well.” She said Republicans will have to do “a lot of soul-searching” to figure out why they failed to win the Senate at a time when the economy was bad.
Over at MSNBC, the panelists overstated the Democrat victory in the Senate, claiming the Democrats “defied history.”
That isn’t entirely true.
During the 2018 Blue Wave that handed Democrats 41 seats in the House, Republicans picked up two seats in the Senate. If history is any guide, the Democrats holding onto their 50-seat “majority” isn’t history-defying.
MSNBC’s Symone Sanders, Kamala’s former staffer, claimed that the Democrats clinging to 50 seats shut down the talk over whether Joe Biden should run again in 2024. Sanders claimed that Democrats keeping the Senate while Republicans got only the barest majority in the House is proof that Joe Biden has “an agenda that is quite popular.”
Meanwhile, over at Fox News, congressional correspondent Chad Pergram suggested that keeping the Senate close would likely mean West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin will once again hold great sway.
Pergram said if Warnock loses and the Senate remains 50/50, things would remain complicated for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
