(ThePatriotWire) – The White House says it’s doing everything it can to help Ukraine without drawing the US armed forces into a military conflict with Russia. Heading into the second week of the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continually pleaded with the United States and Europe to supply his country with fighter jets to defend Ukraine if they wouldn’t impose a no-fly zone.
Tuesday, March 8th, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the Biden administration would review a request from Poland for Mig-28 fighter planes and resupply Poland using F-16s.
The Pentagon rejected a proposal from Poland to transfer its MiG-29 fighters into a U.S. military base in Germany. They could then be flown to Ukraine. https://t.co/24U7nNHlDZ

On Thursday, the Pentagon refused Poland’s request. The military said if it fulfilled Poland’s wishes, it would risk escalating tensions between Russia and NATO, possibly provoking a wider war. Instead, US officials stated they wanted to ensure Ukraine had more effective weapons in its defense of Russia.
Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby said that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin rejected the measure, saying that Ukraine didn’t need more planes. According to him, the Ukrainian defense forces require anti-armor and air defence systems.
Officials from Poland said that they understood the difficulty of their request. However, Poland indicated that it would continue to work closely with NATO and the United States in order to assist Ukraine in defending itself against Russian aggression.
