On a Friday afternoon, Delta Flight DL97 departed from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport bound for Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan, with 261 passengers on board. A 34-year-old American man caused trouble for the other 260 passengers when he allegedly sneaked alcohol onto the plane and became intoxicated.
The French plane destined for Detroit had to make an emergency landing on a Canadian island because of the disruptive passenger who had managed to free himself after he was restrained.
After the emergency landing at Stephenville Dymond International Airport in Newfoundland, the clueless drunk man asked law enforcement officers, “I’m under arrest for what?”
A passenger said the person sitting next to her had tried to go to the restroom, and she saw two people arguing. One was the drunken man. The staff advised her to use another restroom.
Because of the inebriated man’s actions, airline staff had to restrain him physically.
Before landing in Stephenville, however, the guy managed to break himself from his handcuffs, prompting five or six passengers to step in and detain him until police could board the plane.
One witness said when they arrived in Canada and saw the police cars, they felt more secure and safe.
Another passenger said he was all set to “throw hands.”
Delta representatives said the airline has a zero-tolerance policy for that behavior. The safety of the customers and the flight crew is paramount.
This disorderly patron was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Stephenville, Newfoundland, and Labrador.
Three weeks ago in May, a drunk passenger on a flight from Germany to the United States caused the plane to make an emergency landing in Manchester, England.
The departure of the Lufthansa aircraft from Munich was set to go to Chicago.
However, just before 5 o’clock, the jet made a U-turn over Ireland and returned to Manchester to offload an unruly passenger.
At 5:53 p.m., the jet touched down, and local police were there to greet it.
