(ThePatriotWire)- According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh’s Palm Beach, Florida, mansion sold for $155,000,000, making it the real estate deal that officially eclipsed the multimillion-dollar acquisition made by Citadel CEO Ken Griffin in 2022.
Real estate experts told the WSJ that the new buyer, billionaire William Lauder of the Estee Lauder fortune, wants to destroy the mansion and rebuild it with a new, more contemporary one. It doesn’t matter to the buyers that the house has a rich history.
Limbaugh reportedly spent $3.9 million for the 2.7-acre property in 1993, when he decided to make Florida his permanent residence.
The main house on the property is 24,000 square feet and was decorated mostly to Limbaugh’s specifications. The remaining 250 feet of ocean frontage and private beach access are located on the property’s western edge.
In addition, WSJ notes that the home can be located on North Ocean Boulevard and was designed with inspiration from the architecture of the West Indies. It has been said that the property was planned to include a section created in the style of Versailles and that the chandelier in the dining room is an exact replica of the one in the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
Radio’s most successful host modeled his library after the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina. Limbaugh built some areas of the property as an homage to traditional American building techniques and styles.
The oceanfront estate was listed for $150 million to $175 million.
After Limbaugh passed away in 2021, it is unclear whether any interior renovations have been made. His wife was the property’s owner until the most recent sale.
Griffin’s previous record was set in 2022 when he paid $106,900,000 to purchase an estate from Adrienne Arsht. Griffin bought the sprawling house after shifting the Citadel’s headquarters from the violent metropolis of Chicago to the more serene environment of South Florida.
