(ThePatriotWire)- According to the US Central Command, a rocket strike was launched at the US military’s Green Village camp in northeast Syria, although it missed the forces and equipment of the US or the coalition.

The base was assaulted by three 107-mm (4.2-inch) rockets on Sunday, and a fourth rocket and rocket tubes were discovered at the launch site, which was located approximately five kilometers (three miles) away, according to a statement from the military.

At least one US military serviceman in Syria sustained a minor injury when the Green Village base was damaged last month during fighting between the US military and rebels supported by Iran.

The event sparked a US retaliation that resulted in the deaths of two to three of the attackers.

According to the Central Command, an investigation is being conducted into Syria’s most recent unsuccessful attempt at about 7:05 p.m. local time (16:05 GMT).

There were no more details provided.

At least two fighters were also killed in the attack last month, which the US military described as rocket attacks on two installations and which US Central Command identified as including “suspected Iran-backed terrorists.”

In northeastern Syria, near Mission Support Site Green Village, controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led organization supported by the US, six rockets were alleged to have landed inside the perimeter of Mission Support Site Conoco.
The news came a day after the US claimed to have conducted raids in Deir Az Zor, a strategically crucial oil-rich province bordering Iraq, against organizations associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

During the Obama administration’s war against ISIL, US forces entered Syria for the first time in cooperation with the SDF. About 900 US soldiers are present in Syria, the majority in the east.

According to Brett McGurk, the White House’s coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, the US military’s primary goals in Syria, are to lessen violence, keep up military pressure on ISIL (ISIS), handle Syria’s humanitarian situation, and defend Israel.

The Syrian government has repeatedly opposed the US presence there and called for the withdrawal of US troops.
